I am prompted to provide a summation up of my thoughts.

1. This bill has far reaching ramifications for every man woman and child in the US and seeks to influence possibly millions of others in the world so if it is less than perfect why vote for it?

2. Why pretend that you stand for anything when in the face of what you perceive as overwhelming opposition you simply throw up your hands and say "me too?" (See congresswoman Mack above)

3. When your explanations for ignoring constituents concerns are ignored and your words contain language like unfortunately and regrettably one wonders why votes are cast in favor of a bill that would cause regret other than the righteous anger from voters when they realize how bad they’d been betrayed. Why be so defensive if you were so convinced to join a hostile opposition party and jump ship from your own?

4. Finally, it is deliciously, perversely ironic that almost every one realized how bad they’d screwed the kitty but not to worry they all express the hope that since they failed to do their jobs properly that the Senate would “fix” their screw up. Is $174, 000 bucks and a paid staff not enough for you to be able to do your job?

I hope the Senate fixes their screw up by killing the bill.

I hope that every person that voted for this bill, Republican or Democrat, is defeated in the next election cycle and I think that quite a few will be since they do not have a clue as to the level of simmering anger over this. I say fan the flames and let them be consumed by a fire of their own making.

We value the term "maverick" and praise folks making principled stands. Unfortunately the examples in this article do not exemplify people making a principled stand. I visited each and every one of their congressional web sites and read their press releases explaining their votes. I cut interesting sections with links to the pages for reading in full of those interested. After reading most of their lame excuses for their actions I would have to agree with the application of the label, especially as the author of this post has posited it. To not even read the bill and pen such silly rhetoric is insulting to their constitutients intelligence.

“Regardless of one’s thoughts on the politics of climate change, it is evident that federal regulation of greenhouse gases will be adopted, whether it’s by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or Congress. Recognizing this, I have been working with Chairman Henry Waxman and my colleagues in the Committee to improve this bill to better protect our economy, consumers and businesses.” Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-CA) http://bono.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=130601

…”I worry about the estimates that utility costs for all of us may increase, but I also agonize about the cost of doing nothing." Mike Castle(R-Del.)

Unfortunately in Congress, we rarely get to vote on perfect legislation. We have to make tough choices. This bill was certainly far from perfect. I am hopeful that as the Senate takes up this proposal and we continue discussions in the House, significant sections will be improved. John McHugh (R-NY)

“This is by no means a perfect bill but, for New Jersey businesses and families, many of the federal standards that will be created are mirroring state standards long on the books.
Frank A. LoBiondo (R-NJ)

“I understand the concerns associated with the costs to consumers. Many leading experts differ on the economic impact the legislation will have on taxpayers. But the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has concluded that any costs incurred would be minimal – equivalent to the price of a first-class postage stamp a day.
Leonard Lance (R-NJ)

“This bill is not perfect…”
Dave Reichert (R-WA)

“We know that climate change has a disproportionate impact on the vulnerable, poor populations of our world. Authorization of funding and other assistance programs for developing countries to promote clean and efficient energy technologies will compliment our foreign assistance programs by helping developing countries build their economies in environmentally-safe ways.” Chris Smith (R-NJ)

While the ACES bill is overly complicated, I voted in favor of the legislation to address these problems, looking forward to major improvements in the Senate. Mark Kirk (R-IL)
