Henrietta Hughes: The Face of the Democrat Party

Barack Obama took his traveling infomercial show to Fort Meyers, Florida, last week to hawk his spending bill. While performing on stage, Obama took a question from a one, Henrietta Hughes. Hughes stood up and made a plea for the government’s help, as she has been homeless since 2003. With wavering voice, she pleaded, “I have an urgent need, unemployment and homelessness, a very small vehicle for my family and I to live in. The housing authority has two years’ waiting lists, and we need something more than the vehicle and the parks to go to. We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom. Please help.” With a hug and a kiss on the cheek, Obama promised to make the world right for her.

Trouble in Henrietta Hughes’ yet unrealized paradise soon arrived. She lives in her car with her thirty something year old son, Cory. Holes in her story and the mathematics were starting to work against her.

Tanya Johnson, the director of We Care Outreach Ministry, had already reached out to Hughes by offering her a house free for 90 days, then $400 per month thereafter. Hughes refused. Johnson also stated that the ministry gave Mrs. Hughes and her son money, and offered a job training course to her son. The money was taken, but the training was refused. Hughes said she had to turn down the housing because the services were not free, the ministry wanted $400 right away for rent. Hughes and her son survive on her $800 per month disability payment. After expenses, she could not afford the $400 per month in rent.

Then real estate transactions came to light, elucidating property she and her son own that clouded her story even further: 6/18/01 Property (Lot 19, Block 35, Unit 9, Sec. 20, Twnshp 44S, Range 27, Lehigh Acres Subdivision) purchased by Henrietta and Corey Hughes 10/10/03 – $124,400.00 lien release due to payment in full to Henrietta and Corey Hughes. 8/9/06 – Quit claim deed signed by Henrietta Hughes granting full ownership to Corey Hughes. No transactions since for either Henrietta Hughes or Corey Hughes which means that Corey Hughes still owns the property. Taxes current (paid) on 1/1/09. This may or may not be relevant to her plight, but her son, according to county records, still owns property that was transferred to him by Henrietta. One can draw their own conclusion about whether or not the transfer of property had anything to do with staying on the dole.

Then there is the issue of willingness and math. She, by all appearances, is capable of work. She may have had some infirmities at some point in her life, but so have many other people, and they are willing to be self sustaining. And her thirty something year old son certainly seems capable of work–but willing, not so much. So on with the math: she makes $800 from disability less her bills; she cannot afford $400 per month for rent, so let’s assume she nets $200, and her bills are $600; the federally mandated minimum wage is 6.55 per hour; if Capable Cory worked 40 hours per week–the possibility of not getting a minimum wage job with a college degree he possesses is not plausible to me–he would gross $1135 per month. The estimated withholding tax on minimum wage is $428 per year for a forty hour work week, leaving Capable Cory with a net monthly income of $1100; this coupled with the disability check his mother continues to draw, has all the appearances of having everything they need sans willingness, and a little self respect, to pull their weight. Now, if Capable Cory worked another job part-time, and his mother decided to get off the dole, which she has been on since 1983, and get a job, their financial windfalls are limitless.

Perhaps my assessment of Henrietta Hughes and her son could be deemed too harsh, but despite the math and willingness part of the equation, she is devoid of the benefit of the doubt because she rose out of the cesspool of the Obama political machine, and therefore her story is tainted.

But this is not about Henrietta Hughes or her son, Cory; it is about Barack Obama. Stories of people whose primary job is milking the system are a dime a dozen, same song and dance, just a different name and face.

The probability of winning the big multi-state lotto is about 1 in 16,000,000; the probability of a homeless woman, living on the streets of Fort Meyer, Florida, unemployed, on the government dole, no television, internet, etcetera to gain information concerning the event, obtaining tickets that are given out one at a time through a very controlled vetting process by the Obama administration, bullying her disabled way through the crowded venue to the front, and then being called on by the President of the United States to tell her heart wrenching story, the odds are infinitesimal. The odds of this happening, without orchestration, are most definitely higher than winning the lotto. Particularly considering Obama has had only one press conference, and the people who were called on to ask questions were pre-chosen and notified ahead of time that they would be called on; and two of the questioners called on were not with the press–incredulously they belonged to a radical left wing blog–the Huffingtonpost.com–and a radical left wing radio talk show host. Henrietta Hughes was a plant discovered by canvassing effort in the area by the Obama administration. But Obama’s problem with Henrietta Hughes, as with Bill Richardson, Tom Daschle, Hilda Solis, and Nancy Killefer–his that his team does not know how to vet.

As Obama was promising her economic salvation, Republican state representative Nicholas Thompson gave Henrietta Hughes and her son the keys to one of his houses, rent free. This was art imitating life at its best. Perhaps another motivating factor to encourage Henrietta Hughes and her son to actually work is Obama’s stimulus package. Hopefully they were made acutely aware that if they do get jobs, Obama’s one-trillion plus stimulus package will net them approximately $13 per week until next January; but then, and sadly so, it drops to $8 per week of stimulus. But for a while they can enjoy that $13 per week of stimulus.

So there you have it. As I write this, Obama is in the process of signing the stimulus package and the stock market is down 300 points as a result. Over half of you voted for this debacle; this well rehearsed carnival barker is preying on the naivety of the people who ended their education with public schools and liberal agenda-driven universities, hoping and praying there exists another dimension other than the reality they live in, and that Obama will lead them to it with hope and change dangling of the end of a stick. Obama is a man of no discernible substance; his only professional redeemable value is the ability to campaign; his speeches were, and are, nothing but prepared sound bites and left-wing talking points; he does not have the audacity to meet the press in an open forum, nor will he speak to a group that is not pre-selected. This president, this anti-leader, to date, has, yet again, demonstrated that he is nothing but a slickly produced media creation hawking ideas that have failed since the early 20th century, and to the detriment of this country.

Indeed, Henrietta Hughes, and her son, are the face of the Democrat Party–capable, but unwilling, to be self-sufficient.
