Welfare Ain’t What It Used To Be

Sharon Jasper has been victimized. Sharon Jasper has been rabidly wronged. She has become a Section 8 carcass, the victim of ever changing public housing policies.

Sharon Jasper has spent 57 of her 58 years dedicated to one cause and one cause only, and has nothing to show for her dedicated servitude. She has lived in Section 8 housing all but one of her 58 years. This legacy was passed down from her parents, who moved into Section 8 housing in 1949 when Sharon was six months old. She has passed the legacy down to her own children, but fears they may have to get jobs to pay for the utilities and deposits that Section 8 is now requiring. She laments about her one year hiatus from the comfort of her Section 8 nirvana: “I tried it for a year… you know… working and all. It’s not anything I would want to go through again, or wish on anyone in my family, but I am damn proud of that year.”

After hurricane Katrina, Sharon moved out of the St. Bernard housing project and into a new, albeit substandard, quarterage. As can be noted from the above photo of her new Section 8 home, it is repugnant and not suitable for someone of Sharon Jasper’s senior status in the system. “Don’t be fooled by them hardwood floors,” says Sharon. “They told me they were putting in scraped wood floors cause it was more expensive and elegant, but I am not a fool–that was just a way to make me take scratched up wood because I am black. The 60 inch HD TV? It may look nice but it is not a plasma. It’s not a plasma because I’m black. Now they want me to pay a deposit and utilities on this dump. Do you know why?”

She has held her tongue through years of abuse by the system, but it came to a head at the New Orleans city council meeting where discussions were under way about the tearing down of the St. Bernard projects. When a near riotous exchange between two groups, one opposing the tearing down of St. Bernard and the other wanting the dilapidated buildings torn down and newer ones built, Sharon unleashed verbal hell with her once silenced tongue. The object of her oratory prowess was an acquiescent poor white boy in attendance. The content of her scathing rebuke was, “just because you pay for my house, my car, my big screen and my food, I will not be treated like a slave!” and “back up and shut up! Shut up, white boy! Shut up, white boy!”

Recapping from the mental log of the city council minutes in her head, Sharon repines, “our families have been displaced all over the United States. They are being forced to commit crimes in cities they are unfamiliar with. It is a very uncomfortable situation for them. Bring them back, then let’s talk about redevelopment.”

To try to bring notice to her tribulations, Sharon has graciously allowed parts of her slummy abode to be photographed for documentation of her abuse.

Shown above is the dining room that the housing authority pawned off on her. Sharon will acknowledge that it is nice and all, but the “man” knows she has 25 family members to feed and the size is inadequate. She believes she is the recipient of malevolence by “the man.”

Above is her bathroom, intended to taunt her because “the man” knows she is going to have to start paying her utility bills and wants to run-up her water and towel bills. Once again, she is the recipient of malevolence by “the man.”

Above is the stocked wine cellar that came with her new Section 8 house. Sharon states that this is another example of the white man taking advantage of poor black women. “Look at all these bottles of wine,” she said. “They are worthless. Just another example of thinking I am stupid. All this wine is at least 10 years old and some of it is 20 years old, you know the white man kept all the fresh stuff for himself. I ain’t that stupid.”

Sharon directs the reporter’s attention across the street to Duncan Plaza, where homeless people are living in tents, and states that, “I might do better out there with one of those tents.” She further lamented about her situation, “I might be poor, but I don’t have to live poor.”

Sharon Jasper is not going down without a fight. She is the head of a tenant association that works with the AFL-CIO’s Gulf Coast Revitalization Program, which is working closely with the Congressional Black Caucus, which is working very closely with Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to get a bill, operation Section 8 Time Share, passed in Congress. The bill would allow people of seniority, like Sharon Jasper, who have been loyal recipients of Section 8 housing for a minimum of 20 years, to be able to use a special Section 8 permit for a time share vacation home two weeks out of the year in a tropical location.

    There is a vast difference between those who cannot take care of themselves adequately and those who will NOT take care of themselves because it is easirer to rely on a check once a month.

    There is more to this life than the accumulation of “stuff”. I have never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul. If “stuff” is all you want and “stuff” is all you get, what do you do when the “stuff” is destroyed or breaks down? Your entire life crashes around you.

    This life is about self respect, honest living, doing what is right, treating others around you kindly and walking humbly before whatever God you follow.

    And if your God is “stuff” you have my deepest sympathies. That means it will die with the next Katrina, category 5 tornado, lightning strike or house fire.

    Been there, done that, keep the t-shirt, I’m sweating too much from earning a living.

    So many people. So many good ideas and rightful outrage. There is only one question. Instead of talking about these things, why (and more importently) when are we going to stop talking and do something about it? The squeeky wheel doesn’t always get the oil. Until we, the American people, whether white, black, brown, yellow, etc. decide to stand up, make ourselves known and work hand and hand together these things will continue to happen. Is this what we want for ourselves and our children and grandchildren? If not, what are we going to do about it and when do we start doing it? Perhaps we should all take a good look at ourselves in the mirrow and ask “Am I willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with my fellow Americans and do something that will change the situation? Or, do I want to sit back and hope everyone else will do it for me.?” It is time to enforce the old saying, Government of the people, for the people and by the people. If we as Americans don’t do this for ourselves and future generations, no one else will.

    Welfare was created by democrats to enslave people and it appears to be a success. YES imagine what would happen if all the Welfare stopped. The rioting the stealing where would they turn for their “welfare”? Hilary and Obama want more of these programs, This is his “Hope” . So called middle class is being phased out….. and the programs we pay for will never work for us so called middle class if we ever need them. There was one point in my childhood when we needed it and couldnt get it because my Mother made a dollar too much….she was so made to feel so ashamed for even asking she never went back…we made it by the grace of God and his timing. At the age of 15 I went to work and contributed to my family and then my brother 22 months younger did the same. Its called helping yourself….
    Democracy has shown to be good for only about 200 years it appears we are nearing the end. We better start paying attention to our scripture and take notice of what is trying to take over….there is no stopping the enevitable but you can do something for yourself…Trust in God and believe…seek His word….wise men still do

    Sad, but a true situation in America. There are so many with so much government subsidy, why do anything to try and make it on you own, except to sit and complain about how bad they have it and ” poor me” The government encourages those who want to, to live this way. There are ways that the government can improve these conditions, but as you can see, we have a government that has no desire to do anything positive about it. As Sharon has stated, her family has been brought up in this “handout ” enviroment their entire life, and the government has been willing to keep it up as long as they apply for these “freebees”. I agree with those who express the fact that if illegal alliens were deported, there would be more employment for Americans. And if these “down and out, poor me” Americans did not take these vacant jobs, cut off the government supplied living. This is to help them get back on their feet, not a standard of living. If they are not willing to make an honest effort, why should anybodys tax dollars help support those who want to sit by and live on our hard earned dollars that we try and get our families by on in the great America. If they need help…go for it….. If they need a way of life…..they ned to work for it just like everyone else does.

    Sharon reminds me of a young couple who were displaced by Katrina to a small town in Montana. There were given a very nice apartment (new or newly renovated), with a kitchen full of appliances and cupboards full of food, home totally furnished…..the whole nine yards. The wife was a little biddy thing but the guy was huge. Must have been 6′ 5″ and about 350. Anyway, the guy from NBC asked the big guy what he thought of the town’s generosity. He said “well, it’s very nice and all, but a little scary…….they expect me got get a job!” That last comment went over the journalist’s head like a 747. He must have had his fingers in both ears and his eyes closed, because it didn’t register at all, and to me, it was the most telling comment of the interview. You can guess where the couple came from in New Orleans…..Section 8 housing.

    We made the mistake of feeling sorry for a Section 8 family one time and letting this lady and her eight kids use our one rental property. They DESTROYED it. Did well over $10 grand in damages to a newly renovated home!

    The best part is that HUD then told us that the destruction of our property was “normal wear and tear” and that if we wanted to collect we needed to go after the tenants.

    The lady was BROKE with eight kids! If she had money to pay damages to the homes she and her brood destroyed, they wouldn’t need welfare.

    Oh, and she ended up demolishing another home right after ours from another landlord that took pity upon her.

    Oh, and this lady also had a huge TV, even as they wrecked out home.

    Never again…

    To all honest decent hard working americans……….
    When I grew up my parents had no money, but I had no idea. Every monday I would carry a few dollars in to school to give my teacher to pay for my public school lunch. I was the only student out of 25 or 30 that paid so the teacher had a special envelope “just for me”. I did not understand the “free lunch” program until my mother explained it to me many years later. My father was a full-time minister part time auto-mechanic that was able to feed his family making an income that was 50% less that the governments acclaimed “poverty” line. He felt that if you were ABLE to pay for something like a lunch you should. That instilled in me at an early age the responsibilities we have for our actions and choices we make in life. My father could have accepted government assistance for food housing and free school lunches but he did not. We DID NOT have a new car or in-style clothes or even a TV. We DID have good food from our garden, clean clothes and a roof over our head. We had pride in ourselves our country and faith that God would provide for all our needs.

    At 17 I left home to make my way in the world. Without grants or scolarships I graduated college in 5yrs with a full BA degree. I did that by working 3 jobs all the time I went to school. Not one individual or government entity offered me a penny and since this was America I thought that was how it should be. Everybody working as best as you can to get ahead. IF I CAN DO IT YOU CAN TOO!

    While working those jobs I ran into people abusing the system at every level. I worked with a guy that bragged about his woman and his 5 kids getting welfare and every kind of assistance, leaving his income as a cook part time in a resturant to pay for his brand new BMW. I let it go.
    I stood in line behind food stamps “families” discussing which steaks their pit bull liked best while I bought the cheapest loaf of bread I could get and some jelly with change my brother and I scraped together so we could have something to eat that week. I let it go.

    It has been 32 years since I left my fathers house to make my way in this great experiment we call America. Because of the way I was raised I never asked for a handout I just kept paying my taxes and working hard.

    These last 30 years have left their mark on my body, mind, soul, and spirit, yet I have been successful. Not long ago I was beaten and robbed while rehabbing one of the many homes I rent to low income “families”. I can personally attest that the attitude of Miss Sharon and the countless others I have crossed paths with over the years is not the exception others would like you to believe It Is The RULE. I challenge any one of you to go visit the “HOOD” in your city and town or better yet try to provide housing to them. You will see this “I deserve” mentality starts as soon as they can talk.

    Last year I paid more in taxes than 10 average american families made in total yearly incomes.
    For 40 years I have “let it go” ——NOTICE TO ALL—–This 40 year old white male is no longer the the lowest form of american, our time has come, join the NAAACP!

    This woman is proud to have inherited the cycle of section 8 housing from her parents and is elated to be able to pass it on to her children! It is families like hers as well as white, black, yellow families, whatever color of skin you have that make tax payers so angry and want to fight to limit support for the poor who truely cannot support themselves. Someone needs to give her and her kids a swift kick in the butt and make them work!!!! She’s using the system and laughing all the way while using the excuse that she is black and that is why she is treated so poorly! Oh Please…come on….isn’t it time to investigate people on welfare and in secion 8 housing and see if there is really no other alternative for them? I know a woman who was on walfare for a while but worked very hard to improve her job situation and to remove her children from the welfare environment. She wanted a better life for her children…and guess what…she is also black!

    In my opinion there is nothing to debate. What this story is representative of is a system that has been broken for years. In an age where we have all been “sensitized” to everyones political, religious & cultural needs & differences, we have created a system that doesn’t allow debate or change because to do so would perpetrate the “racist” heavy-hand of the majority. Ms Jasper is the poster-child of how America was emasculated; from a strong, confident, powerful nation to a broken, worried, nervous nation that blames itself for all the wrong of the world.

    Simply put, the current state of the welfare system and the people who leech it dry through our tax-giving is the biggest successful street-scam ever pulled off. It beats any hustle ever schemed. Imagine: free food, free rent, free clothes, free furniture, free medical & dental care, free legal representation, free transportation (when needed to go to the welfare office or social security office), free phone, free TV, etc. There’s not a damned thing anyone can say or do about it without painting themselves a racist. What a coup this is for lazy-asses everywhere, and for all the Abby Hoffman (Steal This Book) bleeding heart liberals that wanted to “beat down the man”! Well, enjoy your victory and reap the fruits of your compassionate labors. Wooohooo, we made it! Power to the people!

    My kid works in a call center re-charging minutes on pay-as-you-go cell phones. States have now authorized cell-phone minutes to be a legitimate expense for welfare recipients. The debit-type cards that many states issue the recipients can now be used like a regular debit or credit card over the phone to buy more minutes for your cell phone. Nice huh? This is one of the latest “benefits” to being in the system – obviously we all know that have a cell phone is an “essential” service. Shame on us and shame on the elected representatives for letting this happen. It is a humanitarian concept & effort gone terribly wrong. As an experiment, I wish 20/20 or 60 Minutes would follow behind (documenting with cameras) a “20-something” white male while he tried to get setup in the system like Her Royal Majesty Jasper has done. Perhaps he could use similar racist comments like she did. It would be interesting to see the reaction (and most likely ass-beating) he gets. Would the end result get him the same entitlement as Ms Jasper? I think it is safe to say that he would have as much chance of utilizing the welfare system as Ms. Jasper does of ever stepping foot into one of the tents she mentioned.

    Our society has developed this “no one loses” mentality. It’s like the sports teams little kids participate in these days where there are no winners or losers. Why? Because everyone is equal and no one should feel bad. Same with people on welfare – we don’t want them to feel “different” or “badly”, so we make sure they have all the same accoutrements as someone who works. When is the last time you have driven through the projects in a large city? I used to live near Olson Memorial Highway & Humboldt Ave North in the heart Minneapolis’ north-side projects. What always confused me was the obvious wealth of some in the ghetto. Nice cars, expensive clothes, expensive grooming (hair & nails) & jewelry that I could never think about affording. I also lived on the south side of Minneapolis near the Little Earth Projects on Cedar & 26th South and saw people living in relative squalor. The difference was ethnic. The north-side projects are predominately black while Little Earth is predominately Native American. I have traveled all over this country and have seen project housing in Hunts Point – NYC, Newark, NJ, Detroit, MI, East Palo Alto, CA, Hialeah Gardens, FL, Compton, CA, Tacoma, WA, Memphis, TN, New Orleans, LA, Houston, TX, OK City, OK, etc, etc. I traveled for 20 years of my life (working). It’s obvious this country has gotten away from whole intent and purpose of what welfare was supposed to be and is nothing more than a socialized system that is seen in Europe – most notably the UIK where it is commonly (and favorably without stigma) referred to “the dole”. Wasn’t our system created though to temporarily help those who are desperate? I’m pretty sure it was never intended to become the way of life that it has for thousands, if not millions, of Americans. Question is: how to we take it back? Once you give something, it is not going to be taken away without a fight. This is the root of changing the system – how do we answer this question?

    You want your hometown to look like the crime ridden degenerate nightmare of an open sewer that is Mexico City?
    Watching that video really opened up my mind to the real numbers, have a look. Watch some mindless sitcom instead and you’re just furthering the destruction of the greatest society this world has ever known.

    This article shares nothing new! I am a 31 year old Latina, and a liberal. I also grew up poor in a gang/drug/crime infested area. I grew up in Watts, California. When my family and would pass by the projects we’d see their parking lots FILLED with brand new cars and I always wondered why my family couldn’t have that since my father was a hard-ass working man ever since he’d crossed the border at the age of 15 … illegally. My father and mother worked so damn hard for the few things we had and we were proud of it. I’ve always known that MANY ‘welfare lifers’ are useless people … I knew many black and Latinos who abused the welfare … bitched about not getting enough money while sitting in front of their huge TV’s and wearing (real) gold earings, necklaces, rings, ect. The worst part is they were actually proud of cheating the system. It disgusts me and always has. Due to my parents work ethics, I overcame many obstacles and am now a counselor of clients who I know would genuinely benefit from a housing program. I think we need to put the ‘welfare lifers’ in jail as well as their kids if they follow suit. I’m sick and tired of poorness being used as an excuse to being ignorant, arrogant, and just plain A$$H@!#$.

    This had a ring of truth to me, well, until I saw the pic of her bathroom, of course. Regardless, I went to snopes and sure enough the quotes and the first pic (with the big screen) are legit! This woman and many, many, others like her have never known any different and thats just sad, really. Never the less they disgust me. I watched my Dad work driving a semi until the day he died. He was too proud to even get on food stamps, even though a few times my mother and him talked about it. Still we made it month to month. We may have ate a lot of biscuits and gravy but we didnt starve. Now my brother works hard and makes a pretty comfortable living and so do I and I couldn’t imagine not having the pride that comes with knowing I pay my own way….seems most people would kinda feel owned. Doesn’t THAT make her feel somewhat like a slave?

    Our son has been to Iraq twice and was shot three times. We have a son-in-law that is currently serving his country in Iraq and one son-in-law that will ship out to Iraq in April. This is a family of loyal, hard working Americans and yes we are white. We do not live off of this country but have given members to every war that this country has fought starting with the revloution.     While an obviously able-bodied Sharon sits there, living high on the hog, people on disability (who are disabled through no fault of their own) struggle to meet bills & rent on their fixed income.

    Food stamps, section 8 and such are denied to people who honestly need the help so that people can have section 8 and all of its benefits handed down from one generation to the next.

    They need to rethink their system…also, they need to take the checkboxes for “black, hispanic, white, white not hispanic & other” off their application.

    Yes, I agree that this is JUST NOT RIGHT but we must stop living with our heads in the sand. Things like this go on daily and unfortunately there are too many people (of all colors)that have a “What can I Get’ mentality. I have been working since I was 15 and have gotten to where I am through hard work and I’m damn proud of it! There are always ups and downs but NOBODY OWES ME anything. It’s up to me to provide for myself as it is for all of us. We must band together and elect officials that will change government abuses. THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER. In the United States, we are born with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness; that’s it. Where does it say we are promised to be sheltered or fed. YOU are an AMERICAN; be grateful for that. Read a short excerpt from:

If this what welfare is all about then I wasted my time and borrowing money getting a college education, getting two degrees and now working two jobs to support my habit…..LIVING AND PAYING IN THE 21ST CENTURY! I do not get to live off of the government.
    Second, I am well beyond these folks whinning in New Orleans because they live in a camper without dishwashers, etc. They also need to get dose of reality, I know for a fact that the majority of those folks didn’t have squat before the levies broke. Talk about your misconception of real life. Apparently the Hollywood scene is going to make everything better. Well, thank God they have the extra cash to do it. In fact, Bravo! For a change money is being put back into the United States instead of overseas.
    Clearly, Section 8 housing is now cheap and easy to get. I wonder if I applied I could afford the large screen TV’s, pimped out automobiles and dream bedroom/bath suite remodel.
    Probably not. I’m a rich, selfish white woman working two jobs.
    Well, my lunch break is over, time to go back to reality and work and make sure Sharon and those victimized persons get their fair my taxes.

    How interesting…and how thoroughly disgusting. It looks like it was cut n’ pasted by the Ku Klux Klan (and probably was, for the most part). I’m saddened that some folks feel they must go so far as to put together a fake piece to mock people. I know why I was meant to see it. I’m teaching a section on social (ethnic) and political satire. This would be excellent.
    I could make an effective point against some parts of the welfare system without denigrating a black or Mexican person (at least someone real, not fictional, as the woman in the photo). Coming from a black college English instructor, my mostly all-white southern students will have a cow. I’ll use it anyway. They’ll love it.

    I just paid over $6000.00 in taxes, am what we call middle class and can NOT afford a big screen tv which if you will read closely was a real deal in her house. And the place sure looks a lot better than the place I’m renting! I say if anyone is on welfare longer than a year, let them starve and live in tents, they aren’t better than me and can work just as we do.

There are great poor people out there that need help to get back on their feet and then there are the “Sharons” of ALL the races.     Not for nothing folks, but let us look at the big picture. There is a major problem with the welfare system in this country. Too many people spanning generations have become so used to recieving the “free” money every month that we, the working tax payers, pay for. I can remember when I was in dyer need of public assistance back in the mid 80′s and was turned down because the Social Services Department clerk said I could work more hours. Mind you, I wasn’t looking for a handout, but simply food stamps to assist with formula and diapers for my daughter. At that time I was working 2 jobs, 1 as a snow plow mechanic, and the second stocking shelves at a supermarket at night. The one thing I did notice while on that line was that most of the people had brand new designer clothing, sneakers, and in the parking lot were a lot of brand new cars. This being said, it had caused me to become very bitter towards several races and ethnic groups. However, over the years I have come to realize that it is not their fault. I really should be pointing the blame at our own “enabling” government. The same government that says that it is OK to let people come here illegally and tend to our gardens and rebuild our houses, and hey, while we’re at it, lets give them full legal protection under the Constitution (even though they are actually criminals for being here), while the welfare recipients can enjoy the free ride granted by our elected officials. The whole idea of putting the welfare community to work in state and government jobs is a great theory. however, how would that truly stand with the unions and the state workers who have worked as sanitation workers and sewage workers for countless years hoping to recieve their pension at retirement. The whole welfare system needs to be refomed. Maybe mirror the way the unemployment sytem works, 26 weeks of benefits then you are cut off. Hey, I might be on a rant here, but that is my opinion.

    I have a thought… Its a simple plan.
    Make all Welfare recipients show up every morning, Monday – Friday at 7 am, clock in and sit in a room with no television, no music, no talking. They will “work” until 4 pm. There will be two 15 min. breaks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. A 30 minute lunch break is sufficient. (You must prepare your own lunch or purchase one from McDonalds, Burger King, whoever. But remember to hurry, 30 minutes goes by quickly.)
    If caught talking, you will be given one warning. One warning only. If you talk again, you will be dismissed for the day and one days pay will be docked from your Welfare check regardless of how many hours you attend that day. Each day that you do not show up, you will be docked from your Welfare check. After 3 no shows, you will be “fired” and will not receive anymore Welfare. That’s it. This should be an easy way to “earn” a living. A simple plan.
    Now, how many of you think that this would work? First of all, how many days do you think people would show up for this. After the first day or two, they might not be able to stand sitting in a room all day with nothing to do and no TV to watch. They would become bored. After a few days they may not wish to come back, but, hey, that’s their choice, they will not be “paid”. If you don’t show up for “work” you don’t get paid. Oh, don’t start whining about who’s gonna keep the kids, you’re getting paid, so pay a babysitter just like everyone else does. If you’re sick and don’t show up, you will be disqualified from Welfare because Welfare is not for sick people. Disability is for sick people. You will be treated like a regular employee. And, don’t even think about taking a vacation with pay. Ain’t gonna happen’. After one year you will be elligible for one week off without pay, two years, two weeks off without pay.
    Really just a simple plan, instead of staying home all day, they will be sitting in a room, staring at a wall. Might make you want to go out and get a job. If not, who cares…

    Just doesn’t get any more simple than that…

    Ok, first of all. healthcare is not a problem. you can get health care. it is against the law to refuse some one in need of health care. its the paying for it that is the problem. It is the choice to go get the health care that is the problem. I have health insurance and I still chose not to go to the doctor depending on wether or not I want to pay the copay or the doctor bill that will go with it. So saying that welfare or healthcare is a problem isnt completely a truth. There is healthcare. Wether or not you want to pay for it when the bill comes in is the question. Or if you can afford to have that bill over your head is the real question. I know I dont. I know in my situation still if they would deduct what I pay for my sons health insurance from what I make that would put me in the bracket to qualify for medicaid. But thats not how it works. So, I just pay for health insurance for him, plus the copays and the deductibles and make less than what you other people do who qualify because I chose to work for a living and try to make something of my life and make an effort to better myself. I struggle. My son takes 4 medications each day for his adhd, asthma and allergies. I pay 150.00 a month just for his health insurance plus an additional 120.00 in copays for his prescriptions. If he happens to get sick, that doubles. So you see, it would be so much easier for me to go part time at work, and just say screw it, put him back on medicaid…. But I have respect for myself. I am a hard worker.

    I was 17 when I had my son and he had medicaid when he was born so I was on welfare many years ago, but I worked my way off of it. Thats what its there for. When those in NEED of it can use it, better them selves, and get off of it. NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE AND SPIT OUT KID AFTER KID AFTER KID. AND NOT WORK and RAISE GENERATIONS OFF OF IT. We all have hard times. We try to go through life and better ourselves. Or should try to better ourselves.

    I cannot see how someone can stay one assistance for so many years and stay home that long and raise their kids to be that freakin lazy!!!!! What a bunch of frauds!!!

    Sorry, but I just had to voice my opinion again. I am a single mother of two children. I have only a high school diploma, and some college. I have worked from the time I was old enough to babysit at age 12. I have worked hard almost all of my life. Only once did I ask for public assistance and that was only because I had lost my job and had to feed my kids. I was only on unemployment for approximately three months, while the whole time I was out looking for work. Not sitting at home complaining that my apartment wasn’t pretty enough or that I couldn’t find a job because I’m Hispanic. If you make an excuse for everything that happens to you in your life you’ll be the type of person as this woman. I am far too proud to have to depend on others to pay my bills or to feed my children. I did however use the option that my hard working tax dollars had been paying for all those years. Kind of an insurance policy!

    That was five years ago. I have been working at the same job since then and I even saved enough to buy a small house for myself and my kids. I am living the American dream. Not sitting on my lazy ass complaining about the free stuff I have or the free rent I don;t have to pay. This woman needs to have a rude awakening. Kind of like our parent did when we were small. When a child was spoiled and didn’t appreciate what they had, parents would take away all the toys and any privileges that came with it and made us earn them back! Take away her home…her food and that damn t.v. and give her that tent! Then when she really has nothing, maybe she’ll learn to appreciate what my hard working ass has given her! Hell….send her to live with Bush since it’s his current policies that spoiled her ass!!!

    All I have to say is that my husband served in the military for over 24 years in order for you Sharon to have the freedom to stand up in that council meeting to say the thinkgs that you said. And to think there are people out there that believe we the American People that have fought for our country and other countries in order to be free and to have the right to voice our opinion, “We OWE YOU SHARON” no I do not owe you anything for sitting on your behind and doing nothing to help yourself. Sharon, You think that we owe you and your family. I grew up on a farm. I had to get up every morning and do my chores before I went to school. When I got home we had more chores to do before we did our homework or had time to sit under a tree and watch the birds fly or play a game. We had no time to sit around and think of how POOR we were and feel SORRY for ourselves. We worked. My mother worked so that we could have a roof over our heads and food on the table. My older sister practically raised us FIVE KIDS because our mother had to work. When I was old enough to work I went to work in a shirt factory. I gave my money to the family because it was the right thing to do. I grew up POOR with hardly nothing EXCEPT for my VALUES that my family installed in me. Things in this world are NOT FREE and it does not get handed to you on a SILVER PLATTER. You have to work for the things you want. Sharon you have no VALUES, NO SELF EXTEEM, all you have in your sorry life is YOU and the STUFF that has no meaning for you, because you DID NOT EARN IT. I have no PITY for you, you are a selfless person that thinks someone owes you something because you were a victim of a terrible tragedy. You were not and will not be the only person to go through a tragedy. We all have or will in some point of our lives. Go live in the tent or under a bridge and see how the men and women that are living there feel about everything you have. You have a roof over your head and you did nothing to get it except complain and feel sorry about your life.     This article is disturbing on so many levels. I paid over 10,000 in taxes last year to buy this woman food and housing and a big screen? What? I am sourly displeased at the use of my tax money. She is ungretfrel wretched being that should be thrown out and give a single mom with thtree kids and a job a nice helping hand and an appreciation of her struggle ot do better. I have worked since I was 16, I educated myself and am still paying off loans meanwhile this twit teaches her children and grand children to do mroe of the same. How about we make welfare recipiants drop a UA befroe they can get asissitance every month. How about we make mandatory volunteer time for community outreach projects in order to get the rent paid, you know clean up highways, volunteer a homelss shelter, feed the really really poor. She not poor she fat and happy in her governmental home. Im glad I dont live close to her I am tempted to go tell her to her face.
