Okay, I think we are all aware that this is a cycle starting from a time way before we were even thought of, however, no one is "poking fun" at Ms. Sharon, only making aware to those who truly don't understand how ungrateful the government has made them. And by "them" I don't mean those of color, but those who have depended on the government throughout the years.
These children in public housing DO have choices. They have just as many choices (if not more) than someone like myself who grew up in a working class family with NO help! My mom and dad couldn't afford to save for our college...we had to take student loans or my mom and dad had to take out loans. I went to public school and had a 50/50 chance of making something out of myself or failing. It's not about the "failed system", it's about parenting and morals.
Ms. Sharon never had to do anything for herself, so like a spoiled rich child, she is ungrateful.
It's not the poor that suffer....it's the middle class that suffers.
Your education may have bought you your "book intelligence", but your common sense needs a little work.
The reason the government still supports almost (and I'm just throwing out a number here) 20% of our population (and that's because I'm from NOLA) is because of the liberal thinking process.
You don't have to apologize for being college educated and white! The Black College Fund has been around for as long as I can remember and it's being utilized.
Instead of hating those who are disgusted with the system and the people who don't appreciate what they have, try blaming the parents that, TODAY, have alternatives and can make things better. This is a different time and era....there is no slavery and ANYONE can make it in this country.
You don't see the Chinese or Vietnamese complaining....
That's because they came here to make use of this country's wonderful opportunities. They (like the Mexicans) live in small places with family members while they establish themselves and educate their children. They are proud of their heritage and stand on very strong morals.
I personally think public housing stinks and there is no reason ANYONE should live here for free. Not anymore.....

Wow, thats a pretty sweet looking welfare den. No wonder the old silverback doesn't wanna work. If I could get a big screen television, nice big wall unit and a house with polished wooden floors for free, I'd feel pretty hard done by too if someone ACTUALLY expected me to go out and EARN these things.

The irony is, this negress will never work another day in it's life because the socialist system will be tit-feeding it until it shuffles off to the big watermelon in the sky.

There is a reason it's like shooting fish in a barrel, don't you agree? There are a lot of fish in that barrel and we are running out of food, and getting tired of feeding them to boot, lets put the fish back on the pond and let them feed themselves.

And aren't you happy, Diann, that you, as a college graduate, can work to support thousands (hundreds of thousands? millions?) of Sharons. Sharon went to elementary school just like you did. She probably even went to high school. She had the benefit of a social and environmental education. Many of us grew up with FAR less than she did, but...

Of course, it's the government! And right now we're smack in the middle of another government just like the one that created Section 8! And the majority of Americans elected "them"...the whackos who are doing everything they can to destroy this country. Those "citizens" are STILL driving around with "Obama08" stickers on the backs of their cars. They're not even embarrassed to admit that they voted for him and his kind. They absolutely REFUSE to read or listen to the facts. They don't WANT to know.

And THIS government will redistribute wealth as long as they have productive people they can steal it from. Read "Atlas Shrugged"...or "Culture of Corruption" or "Godless" or a thousand other current books that those "citizens" ABSOLUTELY refuse to read.

this is a dumb ass post playing off the same old tired stereotype of the welfare queen. picking on the poor is like shooting fish in a barrel; it doesn't make you a sport fisherman any more than this post makes you a clever satirist.

This is insane. With all of the people out there recently laid-off that WERE working hard for what they had, for all of the people that lost their homes after their lay-off. Section 8, along with EVERY other government program needs a reform. We need transparency in the budget. We THE PEOPLE need to see what the government is WASTING OUR money on.

I don't mind giving her (black/white/hispanic) section 8 if she is a single mother of 2 or a father who was just laid off supporting his wife and children. That doesn't bother me. A year or two to get back on your feet seems reasonable. Now on the other end of the spectrum we have Ms. Jasper; worked for ONE YEAR out of her 58 and expects more?

Every person in America has the same chance to "make it" if they TRY. Blacks (not trying to be racist here) but you have your own college fund, the NAACP, there are all black colleges available. Don't tell me you are oppressed, this isn't the 1900's. You are oppressing yourselves with your own mind-set. I am white, grew up "lower middle class" I guess. My parents didn't have the money to put me through college but made JUST ENOUGH that I didn't qualify for financial aid. I bet if I was a "Minority" I would have qualified.

I now have a family of my own wife and son. My wife and I are going to school part-time WHILE working full-time jobs. We get WIC and are grateful for it. It helps with the insanely expensive formula for our son. We have bought a house and have nice cars, this is with a HIGH SCHOOL education.

Don't tell me YOU are oppressed. In this day and age with all of the racism spewing out of the mouths of the ones NOT TRYING, I DON'T CARE TO LISTEN.

Get out there applying for financial aid YOU WILL GET IT. Get a job, even if it's McDonald's it's a job. Work for what you want, don't ask the government to support you for your entire life.

I will swear to you that whites HAVE become the minority in this country, census or no census it's true. There are A LOT of hispanics in this country illegally, you think they show on the census?

Racism is everywhere. BET (Black Entertainment Television), NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), http://www.blackcollegesearch.com/ and so on and so on.

Lets look at this from the other side for a second. WET (White Entertainment Television) boring and racist, NAAWP (racist), www.whitecollegesearch.com (non existent because if we had all white colleges it would be racist and our sports teams would suck).

I'm black, grew up in the ghetto of Baltimore and would like to say to Diann, you're a moron! Sharon isn't oppressed except by maybe a spirit of laziness. No, not all section 8 homes are that nice, but hers is. There are nice ones, it's after they've been lived in by people who don't know how to take care of things that they become rundown. It's not the governments job to teach someone how to be independent nor to create a program to that effect. She may be mentally unstable by common sense terms but this is a prevailing thought process among some in the ghetto. That they should be given everything not work for anything. Because of slavery or the oppression that came afterwards. Both have been over few too long to hold on to that as a crutch to be lazy. The sad thing is that most of our ancestors worked and hard for everything they had even putting their life on the line to ensure a better future for their children and their children's children and used what help that was given to them to get the job done themselves. Some may not make it out of the ghetto, but mostly it's because they don't do anything about it. We live in a country (despite the past injustices) where just about anyone regardless of race or ethnicity can get a good education, a good job and start a good life for them and their families. Just look at a Condoleezza Rice or a Barak Obama (though that I can use him as an example of bettering yourself is the only good thing about him being elected president). It's not mental instability or mental disabilities that stop many people like "Sharon's" of the world but laziness, lack of a proper home structure, lack of positive role models in the home (not on television) and ignorance. Many times it's willing ignorance. It's propagated in that environment many times that it's a good thing to stay in the slums and live ghetto fabulous. That if you try to get out and do something more with yourself then you're an Uncle Tom or want to be white. People like you and those in that part of society keep the concept alive and in your case you're too ignorant to see it; the concept that it's ok to be ignorant, stupid and to stay in the slums and it's ok because you're black. That's what it means to be black. Only white people or only white can finish school and or further their education and only because they're white. No, people can better their standing in life because they're the type to not give up and will work hard to do so or because they have a supportive family, be that family rich or poor. Racism and classicism still exists, but it no longer has the ability to keep a person down all their lives unless you let it. A lot of racism comes not from whites only but also often from blacks. Blacks to white and blacks to blacks. And racism from any person is wrong: black or white, for any reason. But it all stems from ignorance. Yes, life hands many a raw deal and they never make it out of a bad situation in life but mostly, especially in this country it's because they never even tried. If you comments are an example of critical thin king skills learned at college, I'd ask for my tuition back! It's also just another example of the backwards thinking (want to be forward thinking) progressive taught concepts of our education system that is becoming increasingly liberal. This country is going in the wrong direction on so many levels. So sad!!!!!!!

Sorry sweetie, but any person that wants an education today, can get one if they work for it. Not because you are white, or any other single factor. Get a grip. There are people out there who have been raised "in the system", know no other way of life & feel they are "owed" the life style, just because.
